One Lamp, One Subject, One Standard: What Fine Art Lighting Actually Demands

I keep a lighting journal. Every setup from every shoot gets sketched in it, sometimes on set, sometimes from memory at the end of the day. I started it because I used to think I could remember what I’d done. I couldn’t. After enough lost setups and repeated mistakes, the journal became non-negotiable. What I’ve noticed flipping back through it is that my cleanest, most controlled work almost never involves a lot of gear.
